Remember - Not all Meat-A-Balls are Created Equal!
Mangia - I Love "Meat-A-Balls" - I'm searching for a meat-a-ball just like mama made. But first I have to tell you how I like my meat-a-balls. Remember, now just because I like my meat-a-balls made to my liking or a certain size does not mean everyone's else's meat-a-balls are not good. Because their have only been a few places where the meat-a-balls tasted horrible. That was in the case of machine made meat-a-ball.....Everyone that is very generous and makes me meat-a-balls are always very good and everyone's meat-a-balls always have a slightly different taste......So - I like my Meat-A-Balls slightly a little larger then the average meatball. I like little chunks of garlic, little pignoli's and raisins. I like the combo of Ground Chuck - Sirloin Meat - veal & pork. I like them fried where the outside is a little hard so they have that crunchy juicy bite and taste.....My mother didnt always make them with raisons. Only a few on the side for me....She would make them with Chuck - Sirloin and a little veal.......She made a second meat-a-ball with Chuck - Veal and stuffed with Fontina cheese (sometimes with Mozzarella.....The Cheese filled meatballs came with her homemade sausage bread......Man I can smell that delicious aroma of meatballs in the frying pan on Sunday and yes we the kids were able to have (1) fried meat-a-ball before it went into the gravy......Oh yes-yes-yes - I was the official family maraconi-linguini-ravoli taster and they had to be Al-Dente'

Carolyn Cesta - After my Talk Show Carolyn surprised me at the station and brought me Meat - A - Balls to eat and of course rate them. As myself and Ms. Tonny decided to try them right their at the station much to our surprise they were not cooked in gravy! - She said she fryed them in the pan and she must of been talking on the phone because it seems like she didnt pay much attention as they were a little but over fried on each side. But they were crunchy and moist but they were very small. Almost considered "Sweedish Meatballs" But never the less she used only chop meat, chopped fresh garlic, grated cheese, S&P, bread crumbs and eggs....I did like the taste very much in fact Ms. Tonny enjoyed them as well...I Rate Carolyn's Meat - A - Balls a 8.5
The Bunnie - Ms. Sharon - On Easter the Bunnie brought me a huge dish of Manicotti - Sausage, Beef Braciole, pork and of course Meat-A-Balls....I have to say the Bunnie for "MY" taste has really improved (read very bottom rating of the Bunnie's first batch of balls)...They were a nice size - very tasty....more garlic and spices and I think she added alittle more cheese while cooking them - The Gravy was out of this world.....I rate the Bunnie's Meat-A-Balls a 9.2
St. Theresa's Sister - (Ann Curto) - man Oh man - What a wonderful tasting Meat-a-Ball....All the ingredients just right! The Garlic, Parsley, Pepper etc.....Delicious tasting meatball....The gravy was out of this world....you just can't get enough of dunking your bread in the gravy....I look forward to another Batch.....I rate Ann's meatballs a 9.9.
My Sister Diane - A new batch of Meat-A-Balls recieved....mmmmmmm delicious....A little extra garlic....crusty and nice and soft on the in-side....I rate my sisters second batch a 9.8.5.
Michael's Rest - (old wedge inn) - 4300 Boston Post Rd - Bronx.....I enjoy their meat-a-balls very much.....But I find that on Wednesday & Sunday they taste the best for some reason....Anyway, they are a nice size, nice garlic and ingredients mixed in.....So I rate Michael's Rest. Meat-a-balls a 9.6
Golden Eagle - Morris Park Ave - Bronx - For a so-called Diner/Restaurant I really enjoyed their meat-a-balls...Not bad tasting, not to much garlic.....but I guess since they are on Morris Pk Ave they received a recipe from someone on the block....I rate the Golden Eagle's meat-a-balls a 9.0
Shore Rd. Cafe - Shore Rd. New Rochelle - What a surprise to taste a Meat-A-Ball from a lunchnette....But I suggest everyone to try their meatballs....Perfect size....Just the right amount of garlic and spices......I rate their Meat-A-Ball @ 9.7.5
Ms. Tonny - A second go-around with Ms. Tonny's Meat-A-Balls.....A better taste then the rating below....Still a little bit to large....But very tasty....I Rate Ms. Tonny's Meat-A-Balls a rating of 9.0
Disco Ralph & his wife MaryAnn - MaryAnn & Ralph brought Meat-A-Balls and fried Zeples....Now the Meatballs were to small for my liking....They were the size of Swidish style meatballs....The taste needs (For my liking) more spices, more garlic and more size...I give Ralph & MaryAnn a 8.0 rating...But I do give the Fried Zephles a 10 rating!
Paul Berger - Ex. V.P. - Food City SuperMkt - Paul was a guest on my Radio Talk Show - Paul was gracious enough to bring in the studio spagetti & "Yes" Meat-A-Balls for me to taste and rate! I first read Paul's Recipe and notice "No Garlic" - Beef-Veal-Ground Pork - Eggs (How many depends on how much meat you use)-Pinch of Salt-Parsley-Parmigiano/Reggiano Chesse-Bread Crumbs-Italian Bread (Un-seeded)-Olive Oil.......I enjoyed the taste of the Meat Ball very much as everyone else at the studio appeared to have enjoyed them also as they went for seconds......Again I enjoyed the taste but lacking garlic to my liking......I give Paul's Meat-A-Balls a 9.5 rating.......I will tell you this, I purchased Meat-A-Balls from the SuperMarket @ 7 Halstead Ave- Harrison...Who ever made those meat-a-balls I give it a 9.5 & Half rating......But the Supermarket gets a Perfect 10!...I advise is shop @ Food-City Mkt.
Lupe, Linda - West Harrison - A second go-round of Meat-A-Balls- (See Below) - Made a litlle larger this time - a little more parsley & garlic....Crunchy on the outside but moist in the middle.....Very much to my liking....I give Lupe a 9.7 rating.
Bella-Bella Rest. - 583 Main St - New Rochelle - A very small Meat-A-Ball to my style.....But yes, tasty - enjoyable but again a little more garlic for my taste would of pushed up the rating's....I give Bella-Bella cooks a 8.9 rating.
Totonno;s Rest. in the Ramada - 125 Tuckahoe Rd - Yonkers - Probably the BEST Meat-A-Ball I have tasted from a rest. Just like I liked them....Large - Garlic - Chesse - Parsley - Crunchy - moist on the in-side...The Best yet!....I give the Cook at Totonno's a 9.0 rating.
Spoto's Rest. in the Bronx - 4005 E. Tremont Ave - A very good Meat-A-Ball I must say....But the two I had tasted different - I enjoyed both meat-A-balls very much....But I wish they were made by Peter Spoto or his Mom then I know they would have been top of the line.....I gave the cooks of Spoto's Rest a 9.4 rating
Gianna's Rest. - N. Broadway & Odell Ave - Yonkers - A good tasting meat-a-ball....A little small in size.....I enjoyed them but something missing that i can't put my finger on...I do recommend them...I give Giana's Cook a rating of 9.3 & Half.
Carmella from Rye Brook - Recieved 6 Meat - A - Balls from Carmella. Delicious and tasty.....But - just a little to spicy for my liking. Again I would of liked a taste of a little more basil and garlic. Other wise I liked the size and shape. Cooked well and enjoyed them very much!......I give Carmella a 8.2 & half rating.
Phyliss from the Bronx - Philly gave me (3) Meat-a-Balls - Good thing because they were a little small in diameter. As mentioned I liked my meat-a-balls a little larger. But other wise, got to say extremely tasty and delicous to my liking. I could of ate about 15 of her meat-a-balls. Once again I could of used a bit more of maybe some chips of garlic. But the meat was tender and gave me a "mmmmm" feeling when I bit into it. (I do need her recipe to share with everyone). Her gravy tasted very good. You can tell that she spent hours stirring that wooden spoon for hours!...I give Phyliss a 9.6 rating
Kim & Robin's "Chillin & Grillin" Hot Dog Van - Located on Harrison Ave @ the Harrison & Mam'k line. A very good tasting Meat - a - Ball. Gravy topping is delicious also. Made with Chop meat, Veal (their home meat-a-balls they add veal) - seasonings - eggs - bread crumbs - grated cheese - parsley - chunks of garlic - s&p - Italian seasoning....I give Kim & Robin a 9.5 rating
My Sister Diane, of course she makes a terrific meat -a - ball. Very close to mama.....But she doesn't use chunks of garlic. She sprinkles garlic powder.....I give my sister a 9.3 rating.
Ms. Tonny, makes a terrific meat-a-ball. A little bit to large for me maybe the size of a baseball....But very tasty with lots of spices & garlic...I give Ms. tonny a 9.3 rating.
The Rocker - Joanne from the Bronx......Meat-A-Balls from the Bronx have an edge from everyone else because the water is the best. The rocker has a very tasty meat-a-ball. A little smaller then the size I like and I would like maybe a little more taste of garlic and spices but very fresh tasting to my delight. Delicious, juicy and very good....Recipe: Sirloin Meat, egg, no veal or pork, grated cheese, bread crumbs, milk, parsley, little garlic.....I give the Rocker a 9.5 rating
Lupe' - Linda from West Harrison.....Lupe's meat-a-balls are very tasty, a litle small in size to my liking but other wise fresh and enjoyable. I would like a little more garlic and parsley mixed in but still a very good meat-a-ball.....Recipe: Beef Chuck (once in awhile-sometimes she adds veal & pork)...egg (1 egg per pound of meat), bread crumbs, garlic fried in the pan, little milk & water, grated chesse, parsley, salt & pepper, fried on a high heat......I give Lupe a 9.4 rating.
The Bunnie - Ms. Sharon.....Now her meat-a-balls are just a little bit to small. I have to eat 3 meat-a-balls to make up just 1! But I have to say the Bunnie makes the Best meat-a-ball for a non-Italian decent person (hope that makes sense)....Anyway the bunnie could use a little more garlic and I would love to see her add raisins. But she makes a very good meat-a-ball, fresh tasting and meatie!......I give the Bunnie a 9.0 rating.
